Papa Tango Blogs
September was great start to the academic year.in the course of this months events such as assessment week ,writing blogs and having great opp seeing as we had the opportunity to work with the unmistakable Papa Tango company all thanks to our amazing head of performing arts.

What is papa tango?
Papa Tango x UAL Actors
The Papa Tango is going to allow us as young actors to produce our very own scripts that we work on in different group and be performed by the actors from the papa tango company.  Pap tango can give us the skills to also have some keen interests in  playwright or even better the directing industry. doing the workshop can also be added onto an action CV or even a UCAS application for your university.
What came first?

The first step took us are group as a long time to figure out seeing as we were going for a more Eastender vibe but back in the 1980s. This step was to figure out Theater Company Name. It was actually very stressful but we pushed though we were officially called ...........
"WESTENDER ELITE "
In our play we will have four characters who come in contact with each other at some part in this play. Among the group we will be able to each create our very own characters. Here our our custom characters and traits.

Making the characters felt like as if the were real people. as along as that fit the story line that is all that really matters.
Next was to announce the time our story was set in. Having a setting is important seeing as the context in which a story or scene occurs and includes the time, place, and social environment. It allows your readers to visualize and experience it.  Our story is going to be base in the present day of the 1980s. Daily life for women in the early 1900s in Britain .Because  of the protests of women and the support of some key, male figures in society, things gradually started to change for women. It was a very slow process but real change could be seen happening. A slideshow containing images shows the changes that were made over time which contributed to women finally getting their overall aim: the vote.

My team and I wanted to focus less on that and more on family matters ,pain and forgiveness in a more modern state.

How do our characters link up in the story
CLAIRE and  MICKEY'S already have a relationship where they have an on and off relationship. but something is surely blocking the hearts of these to lovers.
VERA and MARY-ROSE have a link in the beginning  of the story. VERA is an abusive and unfit addict of an adopted mother for MARY-ROSE.MARY-ROSE is a young adult that is constantly being abused physically and mentally by her adopted mothers.
In the middle of the story the characters go back in time when all of them meet each other.CLAIRE had just fell pregnant for MICKEYS unborn child. Later on in the flashback CLAIRE  is due for her baby. She hides in and ally way and give birth she is stumbled across by a lady VERA who she convinces to take care of her newly conceived child to go back to her husband.
Lastly MARY-ROSE meets her dad MICKEY  in the present day at a cafe but doesn't realize it is her father and neither does he, At the ending they all meat at the same place at the same time.
Session 2

What our story about?Structure of a script
Exposition/set-up:
The exposition is the initial part of the story in which the stage is set for the main action. Early questions are answered here, including where and when the story is set. The main characters who will be involved in the story may also be introduced, with their basic life being painted.Where there are side stories, then an exposition may also be used to set the scene in these.
Build-up/Blocked:
After the relative calm of the exposition, there is a gradual raising of the tension in the story using danger, hazard, conflict and other devices. The protagonist is usually deeply involved in this, struggling with other people and their own ability to handle the tension.Rising action is often long and relatively slow, and may occur through several story lines which all act together to create the excitement in the story.
Climax:
Image result for 5 stages to structure a storylineAfter the long and steady build-up  within a story, at last things come to a head in the climax of the story. The climax is often the most exciting part of the story, where a lot of major action happens. In movies, it is also the most expensive bit for the producers, with lots of special effects, sweeping scenarios and so on.E,g Big fight sequence.
Consequence:
After the excitement of the climax, the story may not yet be complete and there can still be unresolved and outstanding tensions that are waiting for closure. These are largely resolved in the falling action stage, as the last few issues are mopped up.E.g re-united with the person with their loved ones

Resolution:

After the excitement of the action and climax within story, the final scenes tie off all remaining loose ends and bring the story to a satisfying and final resolution.E.g it is important to ensure that the story is tidied up such that the resolution of the story gives us a sense of final satisfaction with the whole situation.

The Abuse of Trust: Structure Plan
In the second half of this season we were able to use our information gathered  from the meaning of the stages to then include it to our structure for a quality story.
Exposition/Set-up
My team and I thought that it would be more interesting we have conflicting characters . Having conflicting characters can help to draw the audience in ,more and wanting to find out more about the person.
Looking back at history in this time women were finally getting the respect that they needed and wanted. Women were finally independent. They could but be without a man and not mocked. our story captures how the older women in the past were treated and how they act know that society and racism was at ease with each other  and taken advantage of.
scene 1 stage directions
So to start off the story we will firstly introduce a protagonist. For example someone who smokes meaning that they stress.
In scene 1 all characters wakes up but differently. We have written some stage directions down to help when writing the script and the reader getting a fair idea of what each character is.
(Stage Direction scene 1 )
All wake up
Three characters freeze
VERA is unfrozen-counting money, receives a call
VERA freezes
MARY-ROSE is frozen-holding pills,crying,receives a call
MARY freezes
MICKEY unfrozen-smokes a cigarette,receives a call,starts arguing
MICKEY freezes
CLAIRE is unfrozen-looks in the mirror, receives call
(End of stage direction)
Going back to the thought that we have conflicting characters, means that they all have there wants as individual characters to have a conflict. Whatever is blocking the want is a conflict. For instance here are the characters wants.
MICKEY-Wants the lies of his wife to stop and never wants to be second best for his wife.
CLAIRE-Wants the power and lust from men.
VERA-Want her gambling addiction to go away and her temper to leave her life but cant stop.
MARY-ROSE-Wants clarity of who her parents are and stop with the suicidal thoughts.
Build-up/Blocked
For the build up scene the team wanted to do something different and have a flashback in time for our build up scene. doing a flashback scene brings the audience back in time for when women were still fight to be  given rights so to depart from you husband and have baby with no financial support was mocked. So we decide to go all the way back to 1970.
In scene 2 the flashback CLAIRE cheats on MICKEY but has fallen pregnant with MICKEY's child but hasn't spoken a word of it to him .MICKEY neglects her when she cheats on him and is left to have a kid by herself. After holding her daughter MARY-ROSE  for 9 months CLAIR decides to give her daughter up for adoption.CLAIRE doesn't want to face the embarrassment of having a kid and that someone better then her can do what she couldn't
Climax
As a team we discussed ways in which we could bring in VERA's  character to link with the other characters situation. So we made VERA the adopted mother of MARY-ROSE who at first looks fit for the purpose but turns around to be a dead beat mother who abuses MARY-ROSE mentally and physically,by taking her anger of her being and addict out on MARY-ROSE.
In the climax we also want the audience to see what some people go through in a daily basis and that it is not easy. To see a grown women treating a young girl like this even when other women are fight for the right to be equal as men are in society and also where family lies.
Consequence
Our consequence scene will be the first big decision that MARY-ROSE makes which is to run away from the abuse and find her real family. In this scene we will see the first introduction of father and daughter in the present day when she looks for a place to stay. because CLAIRE  was so selfish not to tell MICKEY about his daughter he had to first see her as a hurt teen who has had a bad past and that he wasn't there to take care of her like he should have.
Resolution
In the last scene MICKEY is at a lost for words that he had a daughter and that it was kept from him for so long. He wants to resolve this once and for all for the sake of his daughter only.
So to add another twist for the last scene we will be going back to the first scene with all of
them in in there rooms but on either end of each of there calls except for MICKEY,s call is MICKEY  telling all of them to meet at a secret location to "chat".
They all get to the secret location. Everyone says there bit apologizing to each other ending the pain ,the shame and just admitting their faults.
The last part will be a monologue said by VERA talking to the audience sharing her life lesson and advising them.
The question behind our story is what mattered the most? The answer is family.

SESSION 3
By the end of session 2 our Papa Tango instructor  was able  to help us map out when everything was happening where  how to get started on our scripts.
In this session we where able to sit together as a team and start writing on our scripts starting with our exposition and build up keeping in mind that we need 2 minutes for each scene. At the end of the scenes we will collectively do punctuation and spelling checks seeing as we we edited together at the same time on one document using google drive to us.
Session 4
By the end of session 3 we had the exposition and the build up done and dusted. We
then went on to start the climax and the consequence. we did stumble across some trouble of  keeping it short but not too  so that our play isn't taking up too mush time.
we successfully find the stages and did our regular checks as a group.
Session 5
By week 5 all that was left to do was the resolution. The resolution was kind of hard because from us personally we had never gone through something like that. But we had to embody the characters to the best we could to execute the specific mood that would also indulge our audience.
We successfully  finished our scripts and sent it off to the Papa Tango crew to publish it off.
