UNIT 9 PROJECT

Unit 9 X UAL Acting
For our new unit we will be focusing on developing on our skills. Which means examining our strengths and capabilities from the first year to the second year. For our up-coming project for the beginning is to work on a collaborative piece with the whole class involved, for our end of year performance. Additionally we will research relevant source materials to provide a comprehensive piece of work.Seeing as it is the end of the year it is the festive season so we will produce our own play from scratch.

Week 1
Just like in the previous year we used our skills we learned from PaPa Tango workshop when it comes to creating a story.

Exposition/set-up:
The exposition is the initial part of the story in which the stage is set for the main action. Early questions are answered here, including where and when the story is set. The main characters who will be involved in the story may also be introduced, with their basic life being painted.Where there are side stories, then an exposition may also be used to set the scene in these.
Build-up/Blocked:
After the relative calm of the exposition, there is a gradual raising of the tension in the story using danger, hazard, conflict and other devices. The protagonist is usually deeply involved in this, struggling with other people and their own ability to handle the tension.Rising action is often long and relatively slow, and may occur through several story lines which all act together to create the excitement in the story.
Climax:
Image result for 5 stages to structure a storylineAfter the long and steady build-up  within a story, at last things come to a head in the climax of the story. The climax is often the most exciting part of the story, where a lot of major action happens. In movies, it is also the most expensive bit for the producers, with lots of special effects, sweeping scenarios and so on.E,g Big fight sequence.
Consequence:
After the excitement of the climax, the story may not yet be complete and there can still be unresolved and outstanding tensions that are waiting for closure. These are largely resolved in the falling action stage, as the last few issues are mopped up.E.g re-united with the person with their loved ones

Resolution:

After the excitement of the action and climax within story, the final scenes tie off all remaining loose ends and bring the story to a satisfying and final resolution.E.g it is important to ensure that the story is tidied up such that the resolution of the story gives us a sense of final satisfaction with the whole situation.

using this information helped us massively to devise the play. So for this unit Rob wanted us to have a massive part of the creating process. So we all agreed on the main subject of the play , which is 5 kids that live in a dystopian world where Christmas is banned and they travel through a book and go through different adventure, to stop the evil man from keeping away their memories of Christmas.
So we where split into groups and assigned to act out the different scene that the class and rob devise in order to portray the message of the story-line and be on track of the pantomime theme also.

Christmas play layout

Set up: The initial part of the production is to save Christmas and make it as pantomime as possible. It starts with 5 close friends who live in an era where, Christmas is forbidden worldwide. The mastermind behind this is called the evil one who traps all memories in a special time travelling book.

Build-up:The build up is when the 5 kids parents are taken from them because of showing activity of Christmas, So they go on a hunt to find them. Then end up in different time periods.Followed by the police, evil one acolytes and the evil one himself.

Climax:The climax is when and the reason for this chase comes to an end. everyone is confused as to who side to pick the good or the bad

Consequence:All characters in the story then turn on the evil one but the evil one does not put his pride to the side.

Resolution:the evil one end it all by blowing everyone up into pieces regardless of all that he has hurt because of his troubled past.

Week 2
Week 2 consisted of the beginning of the script work and putting the words in action. In the course of the week it was more about casting roles and using our previous skills to tap into our characters. Seeing as we had a rough copy of the script that Rob produced we where able to add in ideas if needed such as stage directions that make the story have sense.Coming to the end of the week we where able to to have a full run through of act one and also started re-writing the proper script that involves all the stage directions and changes to dialogue in the first act.

Week 3/4 started of with a conversation around picking the right title for the play. Having the play is really important because we can just make simple and easy but I believe that  it represents the essence of the book. The title needs to be attractive in order to catch audiences attention.
IDEAS:
A Christmas story
A Christmas adventure
A Christmas Mystery
A Questmas Story
After a long discussion about the naming of our very own produced play. We settled on A Questmas Story because we all agreed that it captured the true meaning of our production.
during the course of the week we were able to start running the show from the beginning of act one to the ending of act two in the theatre. having the theatre space for is important because it helps us as a  class because it familiarises us on how we capturing the audience from the very back of the theatre. this also gives rob a chance to give us feedback on how this should do done on the day. For example what wing to come out from, how far across your voice to project and acting done on the background.
Ending off week three after a week of of full on rehearsal, seeing as this is a play created but the class we needed to discuss our budgets, posters, props, costumes and front of house staff. Rob assigned me to the job of the poster design.
Poster
In terms of the poster it involved a lot of research in terms of the theme.Christmas day, criminal activity and family. So i wanted to incorporate all the elements into the poster. So my thoughts were inspirations from the Child's Play Christmas poster that has a comfy look but has a deeper meaning. it also has a Christmas tree and a representation of what the Christmas family front room setting looks like, but i still had to incorporate the mystery so what other then a big "Banned" sticker on the tree.

All throughout the fourth week did intense rehearsal in both the studio and and theatre.

Week 5
This week we were able to master down scene with no speech such as the World War 1,chase and final scene.

Week 6

Image result for history behind women market traders
2020
Through out this week we did more intense run through in the theatre. during the week Ben Taylor listed all props and costumes needed. As a multi-role characters i thought that it would be great to do research on what street traders wore back in the day around the same time as the first world war compared to modern day street trader Street trading is defined as the selling or offering for sale of any article in the street. as seen in the picture women street traders wore dress, bonnets and aprons and in modern day we where whatever we please.

 Week 6
Coming to week six we had ticked off every prop and every costume need for the show following up with back to back rehearsals throughout.Posters where printed and stage settings were built all in the course of the week.
week 7
This week was more of a technical and dress rehearsal run though all week long making sure that the show is up to standard with the production team. during the week we used the time to paint and create running orders for backstage use. In terms of painting we constructed police banners and fake guns for the War scenes and characters such as the Evil ones soldiers.During the week we were able to receive feed back for the final performances.

Rob -Danielle :lovely projection, but remember to be mindful of the fake dead bodies when kicking the ball the German solider and remember to sort out the string needed for the scene after the first market scene.
